And for Khema Gaffoor, it was the dream of building a cozy little bookstore where stories, community and culture could live side by side. Khema, or Khemistry if you catch her in her element, is Indo-Guyanese by heritage, Brooklyn born, Queens raised, and the heart behind Khemistry’s Wandering Book Nook.

After years of dreaming, she finally decided to turn a bold idea into reality. A mobile bookstore that brings good books (and good vibes) to NYC’s sidewalks, street fairs and parks. Having a lifelong love for beautiful stories that transport, challenge, and comfort all at once, she created this space to bring that same feeling to readers across NYC one pop-up at a time.

Upon entering, you’ll find a lovingly curated collection of books she loves from genres like dark romance, romantasy and unforgettable stories by voices that deserve more space on the shelf. Whether you’re on the hunt for your next five-star read or just want to browse and chat, this wandering bookstore meets you right where you are.
